Andrei Claude: ‘I want to spend time with Tibetan monks in the Himalayas before I die’

The 39-year-old Maltese actor, best known for portraying Khal Rhalko in the sixth season of Game of Thrones opposite heavyweight actress Emilia Clarke, recently also played Tommy Mottola, Mariah Carey’s ex-husband in the 2018 biopic Mariah: The Diva, The Demons, The Drama. Claude is also set to appear as a series regular for the first ten episodes of Vikings’ final season, which is set to air this autumn

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

I drink a glass of room temperature water and then I’ll go to the gym.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Whatever you decide to do, give it your undivided attention or don’t bother doing it at all.

What do you never leave the house without?

Clothes! Aside from some cash or a bank card.

Disciplined, meticulous and reserved.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

I always followed my intuition and dreams. The journey itself for me has been my greatest achievement.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Shopping on Amazon.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

That our time is very precious.

Property and cars aside what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?

A watch.

What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

That we have much more control over our lives than we are conditioned to believe.

Who’s your inspiration?

Anyone who achieves an extraordinary level of success in his or her life is an inspiration to me.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Managing my time efficiently.

If you weren’t an actor, what would you be doing?

I would be working in the fitness industry, training athletes and people in show business.

Do you believe in God?

I believe that there is a higher power responsible for all creation.

If you could have dinner with any person, dead or alive, who would it be?

Napoleon Hill.

What’s your worst habit?

I tend to overthink sometimes.

What are you like when you’re drunk?

I very rarely drink alcohol, and if I do it would just be one or two glasses of wine.  

Who would you have play you in a film?

I really couldn’t answer that question. I would have to trust whoever is directing the film to make that decision.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Negativity.

What music would you have played at your funeral?

The main theme from the soundtrack of the film, Legends Of The Fall.

What is your most treasured material possession?

I try not to get attached to material possessions, so I honestly can’t think of anything that I couldn’t do without.

What is your earliest memory?

My first lesson of martial arts (Spirit Combat). I must have been around six years old.

When did you last cry, and why?

A month ago, during an audition in London.

Who would you most like to meet?

The Indian yogi, mystic and author, Jaggi Vasudev.

What’s your favourite food?

I go through different phases with my food preferences. However, at this point in time I would say my favourite would be grilled calamari.

Who’s your favourite person on social media right now?

I use social media very sparingly and it’s usually just to post something or reply to messages.

If you could travel in time, where would you go?

I really like the time we are living in now, but if I had the choice I would like to travel to the 1960s and experience that life.

What book are you reading right now?

I recently finished reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

I would definitely choose to fly.

What’s one thing you want to do before you die?

Spend some time with Tibetan monks in the Himalayas.

What music are you listening to at the moment?

Right now I’m enjoying some ambient music.

In the shower or when you’re working out, what do you sing/listen to?

I like listening to house music or rock when I’m working out. In the shower I like to keep it quiet though.
