Something for everyone | Vancouver

Why go?

Vancouver has an endless supply of things to see and do. It doesn’t matter what time of day or what time of year – whether you want to be indoors or out, active or a spectator, spend a lot of money or none at all – Vancouver has it all!

Home to one of the world’s most innovative food scenes, discover the exciting flavours in and around the striking Pacific costal city.

What to do?

It might surprise you to learn that British Columbia has several famed dive spots, including Porteau Cove, just 38 kilometres (24 miles) north of Vancouver. Three wrecked vessels create artificial reefs, which are home to octopus, anemones and harbour seals.

Integral to Vancouver’s reputation as one of the most spectacular cities in the world is Stanley Park. There are plenty of ways to explore this lusciously green, 1,000-acre peninsula, but we especially love the sensation of being dwarfed by the massive cedar trees. Hike among these gentle giants or find one with a hollowed-out section to stand inside for a fun photo op.

Just 20 minutes from downtown, the Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches 137 metres across the Capilano River, 70 vertiginous metres below. Check out the new Cliffwalk, where suspended walkways jut out from the granite cliff. In some sections, glass is all that separates you from the canyon below.

The cool northern Pacific waters near Vancouver are a miraculous showcase of wildlife, with the orca as the star. Pods of the majestic black-and-white mammals can have up to a hundred or so orcas, and Vancouver outfitters know where to go for up-close encounters.

With 450 stores, Metropolis at Metrotown is British Columbia’s largest shopping destination. It’s a destination in itself, with must-see attractions, world class restaurants, theatres and two indoor courtyards, not to mention great shopping.

Every June through September, Bard on the Beach brings to life the magic of Shakespeare’s plays. The Festival is located on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, adjacent to the downtown core. Staged in two open-ended performance tents, the professional productions are set against a spectacular natural backdrop of mountains, sea and city skyline.

A world-class art encounter waits at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Open 363 days a year and located just steps from vibrant Robson Street in downtown Vancouver, the Vancouver Art Gallery currently presents two must-see exhibitions: WE: Vancouver – 12 Manifestos for the City, providing an enticing snapshot of the city’s culture in celebration of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary, and the acclaimed artist Ken Lum, whose work greatly influenced by his upbringing in East Vancouver explores the place where public lives meet private lives.
