In what seems to be becoming something of an internet trend, a new video celebrating Malta's natural and historical beauty seems to be on its way to becoming an online sensation.

Put together with a DIY ethic by Mark Camilleri following a trek around the island last June, the video - having garnered nearly 900 views on YouTube at the time of writing - charts across nearly 200 locations in Malta and Gozo.

Update: less than a day after the video was featured on MaltaToday online, views for the video shot up to over 4,700 on YouTube.

According to the film's YouTube page, the video, filmed using a GoPro Hero HD, an Apple iPhone 4S and iMovie 09, was made as a result of "280km of driving, 496 video clips, two blistered feet and four wonderful days".

Additional filming was provided by Marie-Therese Camilleri, Thomas Camilleri, David Zahra and Clint Mercieca.

Prosit for Mr. Camilleri. Truly one great piece of movie which can be used on international fora to showcase our lovely island. As for bidlafilgvern's comment - I totally disagree. You never stop marketing your product as otherwise you loose the market.

I suppose I am a spoilsport, but I can't resist. I mean, aren't we blowing it a bit over the top with all these "beauty of Malta" videos? I mean, it's not like nobody in the world has ever seen a beach, or a church, or gate before. Has no-one ever visited the Greek islands? Or Sicily? Or Sardinia? Corsica perhaps? Or the south of France around Avignon? Or the Croatian coast around Dubrovnik? Not to mention Turkey. Yeah ok, it's fine being proud and all that but let's also be a bit realistic shall we? And what's the fuss about 900 views? When most of them are probably from Malta itself?
