Tub-thumping Ryanair demands Air Malta's punctuality stats
Ryanair, now proudly boasting of being “Europe’s most on-time airline”, today called on Air Malta “to stop hiding its abysmal punctuality with press statements that say nothing and publish up-to-date statistics on its punctuality, cancelations and lost baggage.”
Ryanair said that the most up-to-date information published by the Association of European Airlines confirmed that in March 2009 Air Malta had 80.3% on-time arrivals and 4.6 bags lost per 1,000 passengers. Ryanair had 88% on-time arrivals and 0.5 bags lost per 1,000 passengers.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said: “Air Malta responded to Ryanair’s confirmation that they are no longer issuing punctuality statistics with the most absurd and useless statement which completely failed to address their abysmal passenger performance. All Air Malta has to do to prove itself is release up-to-date information on its punctuality, cancelations and baggage performance.”
Ryanari said that irrespective of whether an airline operates direct or transit services, passengers have a right to know how many bags an airline misplaces per 1,000 passengers. "Strangely Air Malta tries to suggest that just because it operates transit flights that passenger should not expect the same duty of care as they would receive had they flown direct with Ryanair. Most worrying however is its absolutely dreadful punctuality, with one in every five flights delayed. If this performance has improved since March 2009 Air Malta should issue up-to-date statistics.”
