Easyjet marks arrival of two million passengers in Malta
Minister Zammit Lewis praised the cooperation between Easyjet and the MTA in their efforts to boost tourim
Minister for Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis said that Malta recognizes that an appropriate and positive relationship with the different airlines does effectively contribute in terms of positive performance of the destination also in the longer term.
Zammit Lewis was speaking at an event marking Easyjet's two millionth passenger to Malta.
Malta has embarked on a strategy of increasing airline routes, and from around 45 in 2006 to more than 90 this year. The results have been impressive, as tourism volume, overnights and expenditure grew consistently year by year, said Zammit Lewis
The Malta Tourism Authority and the major stakeholders work very closely together to evaluate opportunities, follow market developments and sustain and expand the current route network. In this respect, Zammit Lewis said that a strong and a synergy relationship have been established between the Malta Tourism Authority and the island’s only airport, Malta International Airport.
These two organisations share market intelligence, devise joint strategies and effectively complement each others’ initiatives to ensure optimal use of resources and maximum returns.
Easyjet and MTA have undertaken joint marketing activities in a number of areas aimed at launching new routes and supporting existing ones where demand needs to be stimulated. Marketing activities extend across the entire twelve-month period of the year.
The MTA also includes Easyjet in its destination advertising with the objective here being to promote Malta and the airline’s services to Malta. There is also co-operation with Easyjet for the organisation of press visits to generate public relations opportunities.
"It is indeed a pleasure to be able to be here today to commemorate the milestone of two million passengers carried by Easyjet to Malta. This is a remarkable achievement considering that Easyjet operations to Malta started only back in 2008 and have been expanding in an organic manner both in terms of the number of services and the territories served."
