Air Malta reintroduces Tunis flights after eight-year break

National air line Air Malta yesterday announced a new scheduled service to the Tunisian capital, Tunis, after an absence of eight years, marking its return to North Africa.

Air Malta is resuming the service with a three weekly trips, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

The flights will depart from Malta at 2:05am, arriving in Tunis at 2:05am Tunisian time, which is one hour behind Central European Time.

The return flights, operating on the same days, will depart from Tunis at 4:14am, and arrive in Malta at 6:05am local time.

Air Malta added that it will provide full cargo services on this route, opening up a new cargo gateway to and from Tunisia and beyond.

The flights will also create connections between Tunisia and other European cities, namely Vienna, London, Rome, Amsterdam, Prague, Munich, Brussels, Marseille, Catania, Milan and Zurich.

Air Malta CEO Paul Sies said that the through this route, Air Malta will be connecting the islands to important regions in Europe and North Africa.

“We are very excited to be one of the first European airlines to resume regular services to Tunis. Through this launch we are not just offering another new destination on our route network but we are also extending our services by opening a new gateway connecting Europe and North Africa, thereby facilitating the movement of passengers and cargo between the two continents,” he said.

Sies concluded by hinting that more destination in the area may be on the horizon.

“May many other North African destinations follow,’’ he said.
