Gozo youth council urges ministry to honour its commitment
Ministry for Gozo had promised the Gozo Youth Council financial support to employ a full-time person
The Gozo Youth Council has urged the government to invest in a youth hub on the sister island. In its pre-budget proposals, the GYC said such a youth hub would help youths on a day-to-day basis, similarly to the youth hubs already set up in Malta.
The GYC encompasses over 3,000 Gozitan youths who work or study in Malta. The council has lately been working on the iLead project, which brought together over 60 Gozitan youths to train them in creative thinking and leadership skills.
The GYC suggested that Maltese youths should benefit from reduced fares when using the Gozo Channel. This, it said, would encourage more Maltese to travel to Gozo and increase their participation in cultural events organised in Gozo.
The setting up of the GYC was a Labour electoral pledge to support Gozitan youths and give them a platform to voice their ideas. There was a commitment by the Ministry for Gozo to support the GYC in employing a full-time person.
“The Gozo Tourism Association, the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Sports Board all have two full time employees,” the GYC said, encouraging the Gozo Ministry to honour its commitment.
