Woman falls down shaft, teenager critical after traffic accident

One woman fell down a shaft on Saturday, while a 16-year-old boy has been left grievously injured in two separate incidents on Saturday.

The woman, a 67-year-old resident from Tarxien, suffered a single-storey fall as she fell down the shaft of her home on Saturday afternoon.

Police were notified of the incident at 2:45pm, and promptly went on site at Triq is-Sorijiet.

She was given first aid by a medical team, and later taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where she was certified to be suffering from grievous injuries.

In the second incident, police were notified of a traffic accident at 8:45pm, the accident having taken place at Triq Diċembru Tlettax, Marsa.

When police went on site, preliminary investigations revealed that a 16-year-old from Syria, residing in Żabbar, was hit by a Mercedes Benz that was being driven by a 34-year-old from Marsaxlokk.

He was given first aid, taken to Mater Dei Hospital, and certified to be suffering from grievous injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing in both cases.
