Police have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in a murder.

In a statement, police said that the man was being held in Mount Carmel Hospital, and it was there that he spoke to an official about his involvement in a murder last summer.

He will be accused of murdering 54-year-old Jesmond Gatt last July. Police said that months ago, he was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital in critical condition after he was being held in Mount Carmel with two other people, one of them being the accused.

Gatt had died after succumbing to head injuries, as he was found in a pool of blood in the forensic ward. Gatt had a long criminal record and was recently released from prison after serving a four-year jail term, according to court records. His initial bail request on the charge of arson had been denied, leading to his detention at the forensic ward.

The accused then spoke to the magisterial inquiry and police investigation that were ongoing regarding the murder.

He is currently being held at the Police HQ, and is expected to be arraigned for the murder of Jesmond Gatt later on Tuesday.
