Magistrate Carol Peralta ordered that the Prisons Director investigate and discipline prison officials for bringing inmates late for Court sittings.
Magistrate Peralta ordered the prison director to report back to court about the disciplinary action taken against the guards.
An irate Magistrate Carol Peralta this morning lashed out at what he described as "unacceptable" and "intolerable" delays to court proceedings, due to prison inmates being brought late for their hearings by wardens of the Corradino Correctional Facility.
He called on the CCF director to investigate and to discipline the prison officers who were assigned to escort the inmate who was scheduled to appear in court at 9am, but had not shown up by 10:30am.
Magistrate Peralta ordered the prison director to report back to court about the disciplinary action taken against the guards.
He added that lack of resources in prison staff was not his or the court's problem, and that the prison authorities were obliged to respect court and its officials.

Magistrate Carol Peralta there is a just explanation for all of this. " WE ARE MALTESE AND WE DO AS WE PLEASE" Finally a Magistrate who has enough stamina and courage to do what is right. Your Honour I salute you. You might be the one to bring some respect back into our incompetent courts. God bless you.
