Fined €700 for causing permanent disability to motorcycle driver

A court fined a 57 year-old driver €700 for causing a five per cent permament disability to a motorcyclist in a collision in Zabbar.

Nazzaerno Delceppo, 57 of Kalkara was fined €700 for causing a five per cent disability to Alfred Cauchi, a motorcyclist in a collision in Sanctuary Road, Zabbar in 2009.

The court ruled that Delceppo was to blame for the incident, given that he was on a stop sign in a major one-way road, with the obligation of keeping a good look-out for other traffic coming from in front and also behind.

Delceppo drove on from the stop sign, pulling to his right side, hitting the motorcyclist who had by then came up the same street.

Cauchi hit Delceppo's mudguard as the latter pulled out of the stop sign, crushing his leg.

The accident caused Cauchi a five per cent disability, leading the court to put responsibility for the accident on the driver. He was fined €700.
