Lidl security guards charged with theft from Sta. Venera store

Two Lidl supermarket security guards were charged this afternoon with theft of almost €1,000 worth of goods from company’s store in Sta. Venera.

Anthony Portelli, 35 of Mtarfa and Alessio Zammit, 56 of St. Paul's Bay were charged for stealing almost €1,000 worth of goods from Lidl Supermarket store in Sta. Venera.

The two men, who were employed as security guards with the supermarket chain were reportedly caught on CCTV camera during the act.

Anthony Portelli, who was separately charged with committing the crime while being in possession of a weapon, admitted to the charges and was given a two year conditional discharge under probation.

Zammit, who registered a not guilty plea, was charged with assisting Portelli with the crime. He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000.

Inspector Sarah Magri prosecuted, while the accused were assisted by legal aid lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores.
