Priest dies in Zejtun traffic accident

A 27-year-old priest dies Sunday morning following crash at Tal-Barrani Road, Zejtun.

27-year-old Rene' Cilia, is a priest from Qormi. died this morning in a crash at Tal-Barrani Road, Zejtun.

The Police said the accident happened at around 7am and according to preliminary investigations, a Vauxhall Zaphira which was being driven towards Zejtun hit the centre strip and crossed to the opposite lane.

The car which was being driven by the 27-year-old priest then crashed into two cars coming from the opposite direction.

An Isuzu TFR driven by a 63-year-old man and a Hyundai i20 driven by a 51-year-old woman were involved in the accident. The woman was hospitalised while the Isuzu driver escaped unhurt. 

Meanwhile, the Police have said that the road at Tal-Barrani has been closed to traffic.

A magisterial inquiry is also underway.

Social networking site Facebook was busy with messages of solidarity and condolences.

Cilia, a very active individual within the community, was praised for his social conscience and his personal motivation, the loss of which many lamented.

Interesting to note that the driver of the car (pictured) is resting his head in his right hand and NOT wearing a seat belt. Is this crass indifference to the current rules of driving, or simply being above the law. Which ever, I don't forsee any answers to this observation forthcoming.
