Couple charged with drug possession and trafficking

An Italian couple residing in Gzira were today charged with possessing and dealing in cocaine and cannabis.

The accused, Giovanni Lassandro, 51, and his 47-year-old partner Serafina Schembri pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Lassandro and Schembri were charged with the possession of 50 grams of cocaine and half a kilo of cannabis with the intent to sell the drugs.

Lassandro was also charged of drug trafficking while Schembri was charged with trying to conceal evidence from the Police by tossing drugs under their car while police searched the vehicle yesterday.

The couple were denied bail by Magistrate Micallef Trigona.
