Hooded boy, 16, caught hunting in Wied is-Sewda

Enforcement officers catch 16-year-old boy in possession of shotgun hunting for birds of prey in Wied is-Sewda, limits of Haz-Zebbug.

A 16-year-old boy from Birkirkara was caught red-handed hunting illegally at Wied is-Sewda, limits of Haz-Zebbug, five days after the spring hunting season closed.

The young man was not only found in possession of a shotgun and wearing a balaclava to hide his face, but was also found to have shot two protected birds.

Further police investigation at the boy's house revealed further 10 shot protected birds, some of which birds of prey, stored in the freezer.

At least, this boy was not torturing a bull to death as they do in Spain, and the EU supports them, by granting funds, because bullfighting is tourism for Spain, not torture !!

There is only ONE way to control these offenders. Whoever is caught abusing will loose his licences for LIFE. No probations.A hooded person with a gun is a criminal and nothing else. Charlie.

Oh give him a break, he was just practicing his socio-cultural hobby, without which, he could have ended up with a psychiatric problem.

Did he go on foot from his home Birkirkara ? Or was he also illegally driving ?

It does not matter that he is only 16, give him a stiff jail sentence like 5 years, 2 in juvenilke to be followed with 3 at Korradino. 2000 hours of community services to keep out of trouble once he has done his 5 years. This is not a teen dare but premeditated breaking of the LAW.These sort of idiots give a bad name to others.

If he is under age his parents should be arrested.

This spring hunter window should be taken by the new government as a test of the reliability of hunters in respecting the law. In the opinion of many, the hunters have not passed the test.

The policeman that caught this kid damaging nature for fun is very brave. That's what we want in this islands policemen like this hero.In Gozo the hunting is still going despite the season is close.Law and order should be at a high level.

MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE ~ shot protected birhhis ds in the freezer! Who will give back the life to these carcasses, penalties, suspended sentence, jail terms, confiscation of firearm???? This should serve as an EYE OPENER for the next season and the FKNK should just shut up! Hunters just cannot be trusted!

Are the courts going to say that this is an act of bluha like the verdict on three youths who gang raped a girl!!! Do we, citizens of this Country, have to endure such savage abuse of the Law. Hunting is as much addictive and even more harmful than heroin or cocaine, drugs of abuse. A hunter is an addict and no matter what the law says, he will break it the instant he thinks he can get away with it. So only massive sentencing with years of imprisonment could bring about the deterrent that our Society needs and seeks.

Was the father aware of his son's "hobby" and his whereabouts? Is he going to be set Scot free since he is still considered as a child and under age? Where the 10 protected birds found in the freezer his own or did they belong to his father?

The sad thing is that he will probably get away with it- just like the "boy rapists".
