Update 2 | Man, girl in critical condition after pony bolts

Three hospitalised after a pony hit two spectators and injured the jockey.

Earlier this afternoon, the Police said that an 11-year-old girl who was watching a horse race in Hal Far is now in danger of dying.

A 50-year-old man is also in danger of dying after he was hit by a pony during the same race which took place yesterday evening.

Police said the incident happened at around 9:30pm when the man, from Hamrun, was at the horse race. Although it is not clear what forced the pony to react, the police said the small horse hit the two persons and injured the jockey - a 32-year-old man from Qormi.

All three were taken to Mater Dei Hospital where the older man was found to be suffering from serious injuries and in danger of dying while the 32-year-old man suffered minor injuries.

It appears the little girl escaped unhurt.

Police investigation ongoing.

Horse racing at Hal Far raceway, and at 9.30 pm? This is incredulous and illegal. Where are the animal rights supporters?
