Former mayor demands €70,000 from Polidano in unpaid services

Nikki Dimech sues Polidano Bros for €70,000 in services over multi-million Tax Compliance investigation.

Former Sliema mayor Nikki Dimech, 35, has filed a civil claim in court demanding €70,000 he says he is owned by construction firm Polidano Brothers Ltd and Polidano Properties Ltd for services he had carried as financial consultant and auditor when the Tax Compliance Unit was investigating these companies.

The companies had agreed that Dimech will be paid a percentage of the endangered tax amount that would not be paid aft the conclusion of the investigations. In September 2009 the Tax Compliance Unit had informed Dimech that the investigation was concluded and Dimech issued his invoice to his clients.

Dimech had in fact received a number of payments, some in cash and some as cheques however there was still a pending balance of €70,000. Polidano Brothers Ltd  and Polidano Properties Ltd refused to pay further monies and denied owing Dimech other monies. Further more the companies had filed a complaint with the police claiming that the cheques in Dimech's possession were in fact misappropriated and carried forged signatures.

Dimech is facing criminal charges on these allegations.

In his writ, defence lawyer Roberto Montalto asked the court to confirm the balance owed to Nicholas Dimech by the said companies and order the settlement of the amount still pending.

ignoring the payments that have been cashed, and assuming the 70 in question represents just 10% of the 'endangered tax'... the result is 2 million revenue, which the tax compliance unit decided (presumably for their own good reasons) not to tax. maybe a recheck would be in order.
