Woman accused of stabbing partner granted bail

Carmen Meilak, 44 of Marsa, stands accused of attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed partner Alfred Farrugia during fight.

Carmen Meilak, 44 of Marsa, was granted bail as she stands accused of the attempted murder of her partner Alfred Farrugia.

The incident happened over the weekend outside the couple's residence in Racecourse Street, Marsa when the man accused his partner of infidelity. The argument escalated and spilled to the streets at which point Farrugia punched Meilak.

The woman rushed back into the house and ran back into the street with a kitchen knife and stabbed Farrugia in his private genitals and left arm.

The man responded by hitting her with a piece of wood. He is now in stable condition and is expected to be arraigned as well.

The prosecution objected to the bail request on for fear of the woman tampering with evidence. However, the woman provided an alternative address and she was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000.

Inspector Sarah Magri prosecuted. Lawyers Luciano Busuttil and Gavin Gulia appeared for the accused.
