Stabbing victim charged with assault on his partner

Man who got stabbed in his genitalia charged with assault on former partner.

The man who on Saturday was stabbed in his genitalia has been charged with assaulting his partner.

Limping into the dock after being stabbed in his genitalia, Alfred Farrugia, 48, faced charges of threatening and assaulting his partner Carmen Meilak, causing her slight injuries, breaching bail conditions and relapsing.

Inspector Sarah Magri told the court that a domestic argument between the couple at their residence at Racecourse Street, Marsa got out of hand and spilled into the street.

The prosecution explained that the accused assaulted and threatened his former partner, who fetched a kitchen knife and then stabbed Farrugia. She was arraigned in court yesterday charged with the attempted murder of her partner.

The prosecution today opposed bail as Farrugia had breached bail conditions and already had a criminal record, which included stabbing.

The court presided by magistrate Anthony Vella granted the accused bail against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €5,000. The court also issued a protection order in favour of the former partner Carmen Meilak, and her relative Alexia Meilak.

Dr Simon Micallef Stafrace appeared for the accused.
