Two youths face drug charges
Two young men from Zejtun charged with possession and trafficking of drugs.
21-year-old Paul Anthony Carabott and a 20-year-old man whose name cannot be published by court order, pleaded not guilty during police interrogation to separate charges of possessing and trafficking of ecstasy and cocaine.
Inspector Herman Mula told the court that the two youths were apprehended at the Love Sexy party held last weekend in Armier.
Carabott was found in possession of 68 ecstasy pills and admitted to the trafficking charges brought against him by the police.
Moments later, another youth was charged with the possession of 32 ecstasy pills and around four grams of cocaine.
The man was also was charged with the possession of cocaine for personal use and the possession of ecstasy pills with the intent to supply it to third parties.
The intent to supply is different from the intent to sell, which actually implies trafficking.
Magistrate Anthony Vella granted Carabott bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.
Franco Debono appeared for the accused.
The second man was also granted bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000.
His lawyers asked the court to place the man under a supervision order and to have a probation officer assigned to him. The court upheld the request.
Lawyers Kathleen Grima and Arthur Azzopardi appeared for the youth.
