Romanian to be returned to Italy

The Court has ordered a Romanian national wanted by Italy to be surrendered after he completes his prison term in Malta.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri has ordered the return to Italy of Romanian national Nicolae Ilie, following the issuing of a European Arrest Warrant.

Ilie, 29, was born in Bucharest, Romania, and is presently detained at Corradino Correctional Facility. The Italian authorities issued a European arrest warrant requesting his return. He was sentenced in absentia for a prison term in Italy.

The Court heard Ilie confirm his identity. He gave his consent for his return to Italy.

The prosecution and defence declared that the requested person is currently serving one prison sentence in Malta over theft.
