Former permanent secretary files judicial protest against Labour media
Chris Ciantar says allegations by Orizzont and One TV are unfounded and slanderous
Former MRRA permanent secretary Chris Ciantar and his wife Eleanor filed a judicial protest against Orizzont and One TV. Mrs Ciantar was a manager at the same ministry.
Ciantar and his wife joined the public sector in 1994 and 1992 respectively.
In their judicial protest, the couple claimed allegations made by the two news houses were unfounded.
Orizzont and One TV had alleged that Dr Ciantar had purposely created the post of manager for his wife. It was also claimed that he had abusively approved her overtime sheets and granted her various promotions.
The couple were also said to have made improper use of public funds.
Ciantar stated he had personally asked the Auditor General to investigate these allegations, and an investigation was underway; nevertheless, the two news houses published slanderous and unfounded articles.
The protest was signed by lawyers Ian Spiteri Bailey and Victoria Cuschieri.
