Businessman gets 18-month jail term

Court jails relapsing businessman for 18 months after he failed to pay his dues.

Lawrence Cilia, 67, from Marsa was given an 18-month jail term after failing to pay over €53,000 to his suppliers.

Magistrate Saviour Demicoli heard how between 13 January 2006 and 15 June 2007, Cilia operated a commercial outlet. During this period he purchased stock worth €53,576 but never paid the suppliers. He is also a relapser.

Cilia was also found guilty of keeping object that were not his.

Magistrate Demicoli handed Cilia an 18-month jail term. Former inspector Angelo Gafa prosecuted, while legal aid Dr Mark Busuttil appeared for the accused.
