Man accused of bribery ordered to return car to dealer

Car purchased by the accused prior to the investigation is to be returned to importer, who will refund deposit.

Magistrate Edwina Grima this morning ordered the return of a vehicle purchased by Sandro Psaila. The car is to be returned to the car dealer after Psaila's assets were frozen.

The court was hearing the compilation of evidence against Psaila and Raymond Caruana, who are charged with attempting to bribe former Judge Ray Pace.

Frederick Grixti, from Premier Cars Leasing, took the witness stand and explained how prior to the case Psaila had purchased a car from his company. The accused paid a deposit of €2,000 and had a balance of €15,000 still pending.

Since the court ordered the freezing of Psaila's assets, the balance could not be paid.

The defence requested the return of the vehicle to Premier Cars Leasing. The court approved the return and instructed the company to refund the deposit to the accused.

During the same sitting, co-accused Caruana was granted permission to travel abroad, against a deposit of €3,000.

The case continues on 17 September.
