Two youths plead guilty to diesel theft

Court warns two youths about consequences of a criminal life after they admit to stealing fuel.

Matthew Calleja, 18, from Zabbar and Keith Friggieri, 20, from Marsascala pleaded guilty to stealing diesel from fuel stations.

Inspector Spiridione Zammit explained to the court how this month the two accused stole fuel from Ghajn Dwieli Petrol Station in Paola and from St Joseph Petrol Station in St Venera.

The accused would put cash into the automated pumps but retrieve the bank notes.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit warned the accused about the consequences of further criminal offences. Friggieri was handed a three-year conditional discharge. Calleja had his probation order extended to two years.

The court ordered the two youths to pay for the stolen fuel.

Noel Cutajar appeared for Friggieri and Jason Grima appeared for Calleja.
