Three girls charged with stealing €11,000 worth of clothes
Terranova owner claims value of stolen items to be five times higher than originally stated.
The police asked the court to amend theft charges against two youths after the owners of Terranova claimed the amount stolen exceeded €11,000.
Noella Agius, Sabrina Chetcuti and Maria Victoria Agius were arraigned in court over thefts from the Terranova outlet in Paola. They were charged with stealing items worth €2,330.
Magistrate Carol Peralta heard how following the admission of one of the girls, the police separated the cases.
The owners of Terranova, through their lawyer, later informed the police the total of the stolen items was over five times that originally claimed.
Noella Agius admitted to the charges and was given a six-month conditional discharge. In her statement she held the value the items stolen was between €1.99 and €7.99. The total value, she said, could not have been more than €70.
The prosecution said 24-year-old Chetcuti stole from the Terranova outlets on 10 separate occasions. She was charged with stealing items worth €2,330 however the police asked the court to amend the value to €11,000.
The hearing of Maria Victoria Agius, 21 from Rahal Gdid is expected in the coming days. Her charges were also amended to read the higher amount claimed by Terranova owner Diane Izzo.
