‘Jealous’ man assaults friend who slept with his ex-girlfriend

29-year-old gets three-year conditional discharge after pleading guilty to assault

Ludwig Cassar, 29, of Ibragg was handed a three-year conditional discharge after about of jealousy led him to grievously injure his friend.

Cassar was also charged with relapsing.

Appearing in court with two fractured fingers, Cassar admitted to hitting his friend Daniel Cassar in the face with a telescopic truncheon, fracturing his own fingers during the assault.

The assault happened after the accused realised that his friend Daniel was sleeping with his former girlfriend Mellisa Maria Bellante. The couple had broken up some time ago but the two had children together.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona heard the accused plead guilty and handed him a three-year conditional discharge.
