MEPA ordered to reschedule meeting due to absence of lawyer

Court uphelds UĦM's request - orders MEPA to postpone board meeting as one of the parties would not be adequately represented.

The Civil Court ordered Mepa to put off a discussion scheduled for tomorrow as the lawyer representing one of the parties will be unable to attend.

The Mepa board had issued a notification of a meeting that will determine the development control application, for the placing of tables and chairs along the Marsaxlokk promenade.

On 28 June, the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin - representing the monti hawkers who use the same promenade to put up stalls - requested MEPA to postpone the meeting.

In its reply dating 8th July, MEPA rejected the request.

On behalf of UĦM, Dr Ian Spiteri Bailey argued that since the lawyer was not available for the discussion the hawkers would not be sufficiently represented.

The Court upheld the Union's request and ordered MEPA to reschedule its' board sitting, over the discussion concerning Marsaxlokk's promenade.
