Reported crimes on district 1 on the decrease
Malta’s capital city takes up most reported crimes on the first district.
Over the last four years and a half, a total of 8,332 crimes were reported to the police on the first district, information tabled in parliament shows. The majority of the crimes, 3,213, occurred in Valletta.
The figures, which range from 2008 until May 2013, also show a decrease in crimes reported in Florian, Hamrun, Marsa, Santa Venera and Valletta.
Valletta (3,213) is followed by Hamrun with 1,602 cases and Marsa with 1,455 cases.
When the five localities are grouped together, 2008 experienced the highest rate of reported crimes with 1,783 cases. On the other hand, so far in 2013, a total of 674 crimes were reported.
In a separate reply, home affairs minister Manuel Mallia said that between April and June 2013, a total of 69 theft crimes were reported on the 11 district, with the majority (40) being reported in Mosta.
A total of 26 thefts were reported in Attard and three in Balzan.
