Horse dies in Qormi incident

A horse was certified dead on the spot following an impact with pelican lights.

A horse was certified dead on the spot this evening in Qormi, opposite Pavi supermarket.

The police's communication office said the horse was being walked in the road when it suddenly bolted and hit the pelican lights. While no one else was injured or involved in the incident, the horse died on the spot.

Members of the civil protection department are currently cleaning the road, which has been temporarily closed to traffic.

Whilst hoping the poor deceased animal doesn't enter our food chain what are the laws if any with regard to "walking " a horse on the public highway and what if the horse had hurt ,or worse, a human being after it had bolted?

I pity the animal but I ask how long are we going to remain with such a mentality to haveanimals on the road when traffic is busy? This animal could have bolted on a family car or anywhere for that matter. We seem to enforce laws on those who bow their heads, cowboys and bullies are still kings. Going up Mellieha hill I followed a cargo giant truck carrying stacked up concrete beams at noon. Why is there no law these things use the roads early in the morning? they are less of a annoying the roads and keep the roadway free from slowing down.

Taking a horse for a walk indeed! This is the law yet you see it everywhere. Horses coping with traffic and when there is little traffic horses are made to run for their lives. Where are the police and wardens? Bolt

Being walked in the road? Was it hand in hand by any chance?
