Road rage leads to suspended sentence

Road rage incident in 2008 lands former bus driver two-year suspended sentence

Former bus driver Joseph Borg was handed a five-month jail term suspended for two years after being found guilty of damaging Keith Galea's Toyota vehicle.

The case dates back to the evening of 7 November 2008, when the 48-year-old from Zabbar was driving a route bus through St George's Street, St Julian's. The bus and a private vehicle almost crashed next to a roundabout in the mentioned street. Borg alighted from the route bus and proceeded to hit Galea's vehicle.

Three years after the incident, the accused had paid Galea for the damages, however the case was already underway.

Magistrate Marsanne Farrugia stated that although Borg did not admit to the charges, his payment for the damages was in itself a form of admission. The court took into consideration Borg's criminal record which includes various breaches of traffic laws.

The former bus driver was handed a five-month jail term suspended for two years.
