RIU officers stop Arriva bus to arrest youth carrying BB gun.
Add picture of BB gun
Police from the Rapid Intervention Unit stopped a public transport bus in the afternoon on its way into San Gwann, on suspicion that one of its passengers was carrying an unlicensed firearm.
The anonymous tip-off led to police officers tracking down the Arriva bus at the lower end of Naxxar Road, on its way into San Gwann, where a youth wearing a pink polo shirt and baseball cap was apprehended.
The search produced a BB gun, a type of air gun that shoots BB projectiles, which come in a spherical shape, and usually used for bird hunting.

For those that say this was a toy or no harm: Please explain if a shot was fired and hit someone in the eye, or owner simply gone into a shop to do a hold up, if you're not experienced with fire arms you can easily confuse this one with a real one.
Why do we need to carry guns anyway, are we Americans?
Well done to RIU.

@ Jeff Scicluna Actually BB guns can be used for hunting small game. A quick google search confirms this.

You must be joking with a kid playing with a toy.
Four intervention police!!!!!
I think the best place to go is searching for the real thing.
Like theft in electricity and water all over the island.
Drug pushers
A big eye watch on old people dwellings
and so on.
thanks

BB guns are not toys. They fire BB-size projectiles (4.5mm) using a small cylinder of compressed air (CO2). The projectiles can be spherical or pointed and they have the capacity to pierce skin and break bones. From close range they can also be fatal if the target is hit in the right place (cranium). They are regulated the same way as a true pistol is. And in law anything that resembles a firearm is still illegal to carry around without the proper permits.

According to reports in the Times the gun turned out to be a Toy after all the panic.
