Sixth cliff diving incident at Comino in two weeks

2o-year-old youth rescued after suffering spinal injuries while cliff diving at Comino.

A 20-year-old man was rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta after he sustained spinal injuries when cliff diving at Cominotto.

The incident happened at around 3:30pm, when the man allegedly hit the rocks while diving into the sea from nearby cliffs.

Members of the ERRC medical response team based on the small island alerted the AFM's Command Centre.  An AFM Alouette helicopter was dispatched and landed on Comino. Due to the injuries sustained, the victim had to be carried to the helicopter instead of being winched on-board.

The patient was airlifted to an awaiting ambulance at the AFM Air Wing Base from where he was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for further medical treatment.

This was the sixth cliff diving incident at Comino over the past two weeks.
