Man charged with possession of 3kg of cannabis

Martin Cachia was today remanded in custody following the discovery of 3kg of cannabis and for failing to declare €21,000 in cash on his way out of the country on a boat which was intercepted by the Armed Forces of Malta.

Following routine checks by the AFM, the drugs and money were discovered on the boat and the 54-year-old man was arraigned under arrest this morning.

Cachia was also charged with being in possession of a firearm without a license, breaching the conditions of a previous release, committing a crime during a suspended sentence period and being a relapser.

The man pleaded not guilty to all charges and Magistrate Edwina Grima ordered that he should be remanded in custody.
