Relapser lands jail term after police charge him with multiple thefts

Malcom Brian Mercieca was jailed for 30 months after pleading guilty to multiple charges of thefts.

The 28-year-old man, who has no fixed address, was charged with stealing and damaging a Hyundai vehicle owned by Omar Abdel-Al on 13 May this year.

He was also charged with driving the vehicle without a licence and insurance.

On the same day, Mercieca conspired to steal money from an ATM machine with a stolen credit card. On 17 July while in Marsa, the accused stole a handbag containing €150 from Doreen Spiteri. He was also charged with relapsing.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri handed Mercieca a 30-month jail term.

Police Inspectors Sarah Magri and Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted.
