Two charged of stealing fuel from Arriva
One of the accused was a former Arriva employee
Two men were today arraigned in court and charged with the theft of 25 litres of diesel from Arriva.
One of the accused, Ramon Caruana was an Arriva employee who lost his job following the incident.
Caruana, 26, pleaded guilty to the theft charge and paid for the stolen fuel, which amounts to 30 euros.
The prosecution explained that the accused had fully collaborated in the investigations and the magistrate took this into consideration when granting the accused condition discharge for three years.
The other accused, Shaun Galea, 19, from Marsascala, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera told the accused that this was the umpteenth theft charge and warned him that he was making a mockery of court by relapsing.
Asked why he had no job, the youth said that he was trying his best but found no luck. He also explained that he owned a horse, which he kept in his father’s farmhouse.
Asked how he affords to keep a horse, the accused said he uses his social benefits to feed and take care of the horse.
The magistrate released the accused against a guarantee of €1,000 and a deposit of €500.
The man was ordered to sign in at the Zabbar police station twice a week and cannot leave home before 7:30am and must return by 9:30pm.
