Man charged with threatening minister Chris Cardona

Joseph John Agius was today arraigned under arrest on charges of harassing and threatening economy minister Chris Cardona and his family.

The court accepted the police's request to issue a restraining order.

The 42-year-old man from Birkirkara was accused of threatening and insulting Cardona during the last three months. The accused was also charged with threatening four police officers on Friday.

The man was also accused of resisting and attacking the four officers and disturbing public peace.

The police requested the court to issue a restraining order against the accused to protect Cardona and his family.

Agius was charged with verbally harassing the minister and his actions led Cardona to fear for his safety. The accused was also charged with insulting Cardona over the phone and online.
