Two foreigners were handed a suspended jail term after pleading guilty to disobeying police orders.
South African national Vincent Kyle Trethewey was found by the police drunk and injured on a Paceville pavement, after being involved in a fight. When the officers tried to help the man, he reacted violently.
Police arrested Trethewey, and in minutes also arrested his friend, Spanish national Claudia Ferrer, for disobeying police orders to stay away from the police. Both were taken to the St Julian's police station, but Ferrer was said by police of having to tried to "set Trethewey free."
While Trethewey was charged with being drunk in public and disobeying police orders while Ferrer was accused of resisting arrest and trying to help the man escape custody. Both pleaded guilty to all charges.
The court handed the man a four-month jail term suspended for a year, while the Spanish woman was sentenced to three months' imprisonment suspended for a year.
