Prisoner escapes from Mater Dei Hospital, caught moments later
Officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit catch prisoner after escaping from Mater Dei.
A prisoner who escaped from Mater Dei Hospital was soon caught by members of the Rapid Intervention Unit.
The man, identified as Julian Genovese, was at the hospital receiving treatment for chest pain when he sought the opportunity to escape. Prison guards who were with the man immediately informed police officers who joined in in the search.
The 53-year-old man was found at the Taz-Zwejt housing estate in San Gwann just after an hour he escaped from Mater Dei shortly after 9am.
The Criminal Investigation Department are on the case.
Just two days ago, Genovese was arraigned in court accused of causing grievous bodily harm to a woman.
