Imprisoned after giving false details
Court imprisons young Eritrean woman after pleading guilty to giving immigration officers with false details.
Zeraj Meherad, 22 of Eritrea, and residing at the Hal-Far Open Centre was imprisoned for three months after she was in Malta without a passport and using a false identity.
Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri told the court that in June, the Eritrean youth did not furnish the Principal Immigration Officer with the required personal information. Furthermore Meherad gave immigration officers false details of her identity.
The young woman, pleaded guilty to all charges.
The court considered the defendant's cooperation with the police and her admission at the earliest stage of the proceedings. Magistrate Doreen Clarke handed the Eritrean national a three-month jail term.
