Escapee remanded in custody
Man who escaped prison guards at hospital is apprehended and remanded in custody.
Julian Genovese, 53, was remanded in custody after pleading guilty to escaping from Mater Dei on Thursday.
Magistrate Marseanna Farrugia heard how the accused was under preventive custody after facing charges of domestic violence four days ago. His charges included causing grievous bodily harm to a woman.
Yesterday, Genovese was escorted to hospital by two prison guards, after he complained of chest pains.
While being medically examined the man ran escaped and the guards immediately informed the police.
He was later apprehended at his partner's residence at Ta' Zwejt Housing Estate, limits of San Gwann.
The Court heard the defendant plead not guilty to absconding and remanded Genovese in custody.
Inspector Michael Mallia prosecuted.
