Spaniard charged with vandalism
Two days after arriving on holiday in Malta, a Spanish youth is given a conditional discharge for vandalising cars in St Julian's.
21-year-old, Spanish national, David Coll, was today arraigned in court and charged with vandalism two days after his arrival in Malta.
Inspector Darryl Borg, charged the unemployed youth with willful damage to a Daihatsu Terios in St Julian's on 24 August.
The police inspector told the court he received information about people damaging vehicles in the area where Coll was subsequently arrested.
During his arrest the Spaniard told police officers he was drunk and could not recollect anything he had done. He also informed officers that he could not pay the damages but would be able to pay in a week's time. The damages amounted to €842.
David Coll admitted to the charges of willful damage, breaching public peace and being drunk in public.
Magistrate Natasha Galea Scibberas handed the Spanish youth an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay the damages within 24 hours. Coll is expected to leave Malta on Thursday.
