Diver in critical condition after being hit by propeller

A diver suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a propeller today at about 12.10pm at il-Ponta tal-Irqiqa, Comino.

Preliminary investigations found that the man, 45, was diving with five others, all Finnish, when he was overcome by strong currents which pushed him towards the same boat he had travelled in.

He was administered first aid by one of his diving buddies, a doctor, and hoisted aboard the same boat. He was rushed to Paradise Bay, Ċirkewwa, where he found an ambulance awaiting his arrival.

The diver was subsequently hospitalised and certified to be in a critical conditions due to the injures he sustained on his upper body.
