Man stabbed by his own mum and brother

A mother and her son repeatedly stab the woman’s other son over an argument concerning imprisoned father.

A man recounted in court how he was stabbed by his mother and his brother in a heated argument which took place in the presence of the victim's two young children.

Taking the witness stand, Alan Grech, 25, told the court how his mother stabbed him nine times in front of his two children, in Cospicua.

Grech explained how the incident happened on 19 August in Matty Grima Street, Cospicua.

At around 10:30 pm his mother and his brother went to his residence asking him to exit his house and talk to them.

Following comments and insults about the Grech brothers' imprisoned father, an argument ensued, with Carmelo Tabone, Alan Grech's girlfriend's father also getting involved in the argument.

When Alan tried to defend Tabone a brawl kicked off between the two brothers during which Larson produced a flick-knife and stabbed Alan.

The mother of the Grech brothers, Nikolina Portelli also stabbed him with another knife. The witness claimed he was stabbed in various parts of his body and was drenched in blood.

Next on the witness stand was the victim's girlfriend Mariwen Tabone. She told the court how the mother repeatedly stabbed her son in his back.

She clearly remembered that two knives were brandished but the brawl ended quickly as neighbours broke up the people involved in the fight, she said.

Grech's mother Nikolina Portelli, 45, and brother Larson Grech, 22, stand accused of grievously injuring the victim.

Defence lawyer Cedric Mifsud pleaded for bail requested bail but lawyer Abigail Bugeja, appearing for the victims, argued that the Court should send a strong message that such violence is unacceptable particularly in front of children.
