Man granted bail after throwing glass bottle at man who made advances on his girlfriend

Jonathan Psaila, 23 of Zabbar, was granted bail after pleading not guilty to grievously injuring Annalise Mifsud.

The prosecuting inspector told the court that the incident happened last Sunday at 11:30pm during a brawl at the St Michael's band club in Zabbar. Allegedly, Psaila argued with a certain Simon Camilleri after the latter made advances on his girlfriend.

The argument escalated into a fight where Psaila threw a bottle towards Camilleri. However, the bottle hit bystander Annalise Mifsud, who was not involved in the argument.

Dr Eddie Shaffu of Mater Dei Hospital certified Mifsud to have suffered grievous injuries in her face.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted bail to the accused against a deposit of €800 and a personal guarantee of €2,000.

Simon Camilleri is expected to be arraigned in e coming days to face similar charges. Inspector Robert Said Sarreo prosecuted while defence lawyer Maria Elise Agius appeared for the accused.
