Bad company lands youth in dock
19-year-old placed under probation order for three years and fined him €1,500 over theft
Daniele Aquilina, 19 of Ta' Xbiex was remanded in custody and fined €1,500 after pleading guilty to stealing jewelry and breaching bail.
The incident dates back to 12 September 2012 when at 7am, together with two accomplices, Aquilina stole a gold choker from a certain Ruzar Briffa. The youth was also charged with breaching bail conditions, committing a crime during the term of a conditional discharge and relapsing.
Prosecuting Inspector Chris Pullicino asked the court not to seize the money deposited in court by Aquilina and not to cash in on the personal guarantee Aquilina had pledged when he was granted bail.
Both the prosecution and the defence agreed that Aquilina was hanging around in bad company which landed him in court.
Magistrate Saviour Demicoli upheld the request of the prosecution not to cash in the bail money and placed Aquilina under a probation order for three years and fined him €1,500. The court ordered the re-arrest of Aquilina in view of his breach of bail granted to him over separate charges.
Inspectors Edmond Cuschieri and Chris Pullicino prosecuted.
