Man sells drugs to feed own habit

Court remands drug trafficker in custody after prosecution informs court the man sold drugs to feed his habit.

Clive Agius, 28 of Floriana was remanded in custody after pleading guilty to trafficking heroin, cocaine and cannabis.

The man was apprehended yesterday in his Floriana residence by members of the Police Drug Squad.

After days of observation and information received from tip-offs, the police raided Agius's residence where large amounts of drugs were discovered.

The drug stash, including cocaine, heroin and cannabis was found in amounts beyond those permissible for personal use.

During the raid the police also found cutting agents used in drug trafficking. Small sachets of heroin and cocaine ready for sale were found in various parts of the Floriana residence, together with larger amounts, which needed cutting.

Prosecuting inspector Herman Mula, informed the court that Agius was himself a heavy user and trafficked drugs to feed his habit.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella remanded the accused in custody however she asked the director of prisons that Agius is kept at the Forensic Ward at Mount Carmel Hospital. He will appear again in court on 12 September for sentencing.

Lawyer Gianluca Caruana Curran appeared for the accused.
