Migrant jailed over possession of cannabis

A Malian national imprisoned for a year after he pleaded guilty to trafficking cannabis in Paceville.

4-year-old Malian, Salya Kounate was handed a one-year jail term after pleading guilty to being in possession of four grams of cannabis resin.

Kounate, who resides at the Marsa Open Centre, arrived in Malta three years ago. He was apprehended yesterday in Paceville, within 100 metres from a place frequented by youths. He admitted that the drug was not for his personal use.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera handed the accused a year's imprisonment.

Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted while Legal Aid lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores appeared for the accused.

While was Holmes jailed for ten years for having cannabis for personal use when this person who was trafficking was jailed for one.
