Jason Galea denied temporary release

Man facing multiple murder charges denied release from custody to attend son's birthday party.

The man accused of murdering Mario Camilleri and his son Mario on Wednesday 17 July was today denied temporary release from custody by court.

Jason Galea requested to be released from custody to attend his two-year-old son's birthday party, however Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona rejected the request.

The Magistrate held that Galea son's birthday party was not a valid reason to release the man currently facing multiple murder charges.

Jason Galea is accused of murdering his brother-in-law, Mario Camilleri, known as 'l-Imniehru', a former drug trafficker who spent 15 years in jail and who had also been charged with the bribery of a former chief justice and an appeals judge.

Together with George Galea, the man is accused of murdering Cammilleri and his son Mario in a field in Qajjenza, Birzebbugia.

Galea is also charged, along with Ronald Urry, 49 of Paola, with the murder of Matthew Zahra, a taxi driver who was reported missing last year.
