117 customers file judicial protest against Fantasy Tours
Bank of Valletta and a further 117 customers of Fantasy Tours file judicial protest after company declares bankruptcy.
Bank of Valletta and a further 117 enraged customers of traveling agency Fantasy Tours have filed a judicial protest demanding they are reimbursed their holiday funds. Today's protests bring up the total number of claimants to 253, after another protest was filed last week.
The judicial protest was filed against Golden Travel Ltd and shareholders Karl and Audrey Azzopardi. It was signed by lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri.
Dr Franco Debono commented that back in 1999 legislators approved the enactment of a contingency fund to help holiday makers.
Traveling agents were asked to donate part of their profits to this fund in order to help distraught clients.
However the find was never set up, and although the legislation was approved, the idea was shelved.
In a judicial letter, Bank of Valletta also filed against Fantasy Tours claiming overdue payments.
The company which last month cancelled hundreds of holidays by sms has allegedly filed for bankruptcy on August 8, the same day the SMSs were sent.
Sources claim that the company incurred over €375,000 of debts and could no longer honour its financial obligations.
